The collaborative research centre 1015 "Otium/Leisure. Borders, spatio-temporality, practices" of the University of Freiburg, which is funded by the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft), is going to allocate

two scholarships of 12 months to PhD students of universities abroad.

These scholarships are part of a graduate school within the research centre. The programme provided during the 12 months of scholarship will make it possible for outstanding young academics from abroad to develop their own PhD project in the interdisciplinary environment of the research centre. It is also possible to apply for a shorter period of funding of at least 4 months. The scholarship applies to projects that are situated in the field of the collaborative research centre and that are concerned with systematic and historical approaches to borders, spatio-temporal dimensions, and practices of "otium". With the central focus of research being hardly translatable into English, these comprise contemplation, leisure, otiose activities, idleness or indolence - depending on the context and subject area. The scholarship will consist of 1.365 Euro per month with an extra 103 Euro for material costs. The earliest possible date to apply for will be October 1st, 2017. For the duration of the scholarship active participation at both the graduate school programme and the activities of the research centre will be required. The working language will be German. You can find further information on the research centre's different projects as well as the graduate school on the homepage: www.sfb1015.uni-freiburg.de

Please attach to your German or English application a motivation letter, an exposé of your dissertation project (5 pages at most), a CV, your academic certificates, as well as your supervisor's approval and send the application until July 15th, 2017 via letter or e-mail to: gregor.dobler@sfb1015.uni-freiburg.de.

If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact the coordinator of the graduate school, anna.sennefelder@sfb1015.uni-freiburg.de. The collaborative research centre aims at furthering equal opportunities of female and male academics and therefore would like to specifically encourage qualified female PhD students to apply.
